'Antique wood engraving from 'Nouvelle geographie universelle: la terre et les hommes'.

 

The Shchurovsky glacier is located at the junction of the Turkestan and Alai ranges in Gissaro-Alai, Tajikistan. Discovered by the Russian explorer of Central Asia A.P. Fedchenko in 1871 and named after the famous geologist, Professor G.E. Shchurovsky (1803-1884), founder and first president of the Society of Lovers of Natural History, Anthropology and Ethnography.
