Resurrection Novodevichy Smolny Convent is a convent that functioned in St. Petersburg in 1744-1764. The monastery was rebuilt under the personal supervision of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna, who wanted to retire there at the end of her life.
On June 28, 1764, by decree of Empress Catherine II, the first women's educational institution in Russia, the Educational Society for Noble Maidens, was opened at the monastery for 200 pupils from families of hereditary nobles.
