French engraving — Gavarni, Paul

 

Paul Gavarni, (fr. Paul Gavarni, Hippolyte Sulpice Guillaume Chevalier, 1804 - 1866). French graphic artist, cartoonist and artist.
From a poor family. He worked in a factory and studied at a free art school. He started by publishing in magazines. He chose a pseudonym for the name of a village in the Hautes - Pyrenees department on the border with Spain. In 1847 - 1851 he worked in Great Britain. At the end of his life he was interested in scientific discoveries, he became interested in aeronautics.
