"Passage de Perecop" (Perekop, Crimea).

 

The Perekop Isthmus, a strip of land connecting the Crimean peninsula with the mainland, is the northernmost part of Crimea. Separates the Karkinitsky Gulf (Black Sea) and Sivash (Azov Sea). Length about 30 km, width from 8 to 23 km. height above sea level up to 20 meters. It has steep banks up to 5 meters. The surface is a plain with steppe and semi-desert vegetation. There are salt lakes located in the southern part of the isthmus. In the middle of the isthmus there is a city - the fortress of Taphros.
