Charles Henri Toussaint (1849 - 1911).
Charles Henri Toussaint, born in 1849, died in 1911, is a French painter, illustrator and engraver. He is the father of the painter and illustrator Maurice Toussaint (1882-1974). Charles Henri Toussaint was a student of Léon Gaucherel, Alfred-Louis Brunet-Debaines and Charles Waltner. He stood out at the Paris Salon in 1874, then was rewarded in 1876, 1884, 1899 and 1900. He married Louise Bédelet, daughter of the Parisian publisher and bookseller Amédée Bédelet. He is known for his numerous prints depicting the architecture of Paris and provincial towns (Amiens, Rouen, Reims, etc.). We also owe him fine studies on Oxford, Cambridge and Liverpool, in particular.
