Russian Engravers — Khanikoff, Yakov Vladimirovich

Yakov Vladimirovich Khanikoff (1818-1862) - Russian statesman, researcher, cartographer; Orenburg governor (1851-1856), actual state councilor.
Descended from the noble family of the Khanykovs. In 1831 he transferred from the Noble Boarding School at the Imperial St. Petersburg University to the Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum. He graduated from the Lyceum in 1835. Has established himself as a talented geographer and cartographer. He was the ruler of the office of the Riga governor. On behalf of the Russian Geographical Society, he compiled the "Map of the Aral Sea and the Khiva Khanate with their surroundings" and "Map of Lake Issyk-Kul with the surroundings", published in 1851 in the "Notes of the Geographical Society".
