Netherland engraving — Bloemaert, Cornelis

 

Cornelis Bloemaert (1603 - 1692), Dutch Engraver, second son of Abraham. Trained under Crispin de Passe; in 1630 moved to Paris and settled in Rome before 1633, where he became the major figure of the day, with a biography in Baldinucci (along with Spierre). A devout Catholic, who continued working despite horrific injuries to his hand in a fire. He died unmarried, and bequeathed his estate to his brother Frederick in Utrecht, with Westerhout acting as his executor.
