German engraving — Petermann, August Heinrich

 

August Heinrich Petermann (1822–1878) – German cartographer, engraver and lithographer.
In 1839 he began his studies at the Geographische Kuntschule (Geographic School of Art), founded by Heinrich Berghaus. He worked in Edinburgh and London from 1845 to 1854. In 1854 Petermann returned to Gotha, Germany, working with the music publishers Perthes, returning the magazine 'Petermanns Geographische Mitteilungen' which was published from 1855 to 2014.
