John Stephenson (c. 1790–1836) was a British engraver who specialized in the creation of nautical charts in London at the turn of the 19th century. His work is characterized by strong lines, elaborate decorative embellishment, and finely-engraved detail.
Stephenson began his career with the firm of John Hamilton Moore, a renowned publisher of nautical charts. In 1793, he moved to the company of William Heather and later continued working for his successor, John William Noire. His style is closely associated with the output of Noire's firm, for which he created numerous charts and navigational plans.
Today, his works are highly valued by collectors of antique maps and are held in museum collections, including the Australian National Maritime Museum.
