English engraving — Cooke, George

 

George Cooke (22 January 1781 – 27 February 1834), was an English line engraver and wood-engraver; member of the Cooke family of printmakers, artists and publishers, brother of William Bernard Cooke (q.v.) and father of Edward William Cooke, RA (q.v.) ; apprenticed to James Basire II (q.v.) in 1795. Member of the Associated Society of Engravers, his work included fifteen plates for Turner's 'Picturesque Views of the Southern Coast of England' (1814-26) and 'Views of London and its Vicinity' which he published in parts from 1826-34.
