Grand Due Constantin.

Grand Duke Konstantin Pavlovich (1779 - 1831), of Russia was born on this day in 1779. The younger brother of Tsar Alexander I, he was given the name by his grandmother Catherine the Great because it was hope that he might one day rule over Constantinople.He commanded the Guards in 1812 but was sent away from the front twice for insubordination. He returned to action in 1813-14 and performed a little better.
