"Grigorij Otrepev, False Dmitry I (1581-1606), pretender to the Russian throne".

 

Grigory Otrepiev (worldly name Yuri Bogdanovich, Grishka Otrepiev). The son of the Galich nobleman Bogdan Ivanovich Otrepiev. He was a monk and clerk of the Chudov Monastery in the Moscow Kremlin. Around 1601 he fled from the monastery. According to the widespread version, it was Grigory Otrepyev who pretended to be Tsarevich Dmitry and ascended the Russian throne under the name of Dmitry.
