King Stephen.
Stephen (c. 1097-1154). King of England who, on the death of Henry I in 1135, was forced to acknowledge Henry's daughter Matilda as heir to the throne. He claimed the throne for himself and was crowned king until 1141 when Matilda's forces captured him.
