A separate section of military engraving is dedicated to fortification—the art of building defenses. Plans of fortresses, diagrams of bastions, drawings of siege works were printed in special atlases and served as textbooks for military engineers. Today, these prints are valued not only as historical documents but also as examples of precise and elegant draftsmanship.
