Battle engraving is one of the most dramatic genres. Masters captured key moments of great conflicts: the Battle of Poltava, the Battle of Borodino, naval engagements at Grenham and Chesma. These prints were often created in the immediate aftermath of events and served as a kind of "reportage" for contemporaries, combining epic scope with attention to detail.
