"Smolensk 1611"

 

One of the oldest cities in Russia, the first mention in the chronicle dates back to 863. Smolensk is located on the territory of the Smolensk Upland on both banks of the Dnieper River. The engraving depicts the city of Smolensk in 1611, the time when the Polish-Lithuanian troops of King Sigismund III captured the city after a long siege (1609 - 1611).
