A woodcut depicts a view of the Petrovsky Travel Palace in Moscow. The palace is located on the road from St. Petersburg to Moscow (now Leningradsky Prospekt). The palace was built by the architect Matvey Kazakov between 1776 and 1780, by order of Empress Catherine the Great. In the 1820s and 1830s, under the direction of the architect Ivan Tamansky, the palace was rebuilt, with major changes to the interior. In 1827, a park designed by Adam Menelaws was laid out around the palace.
The palace served as a travel palace, a resting place for the imperial family and nobles during their journey from St. Petersburg to Moscow.
