"Eglise et Pont de Troitskoi".
The engraving depicts the Izmailovsky Bridge over the Fontanka River in St. Petersburg. The length of the bridge is 70 meters, width 16 meters. The bridge was built between 1786 and 1788, as part of a series of seven standard bridges across the Fontanka with characteristic towers. The Izmailovsky Bridge was a three-span stone structure with a wooden double-wing draw span in the center and stone arches on the sides. On intermediate supports there were four granite towers, which contained lifting mechanisms. The bridge was raised manually using chains. Now only two of the seven bridges have been preserved in their original form: the Lomonosov Bridge and the Staro-Kalinkin Bridge. The author of the project, presumably, was the French engineer J.-R. Perrone.
In the background on the left, the engraving depicts Trinity Cathedral. It takes its name from the Izmailovsky regiment stationed nearby. In 1754, a wooden church was founded on this site and consecrated on June 1 (12), 1756. The church was badly damaged during a flood in 1824. After the flood, the architect Vasily Stasov was asked to develop a project for a new stone church. At the same time, the old wooden church should remain the model. The foundation stone for the new church took place on May 25, 1828; on May 25 (June 6), 1835, Metropolitan of Moscow Philaret (Drozdov) solemnly consecrated the church.
