'Europe XVI Siecle'.

Europe XVI centuries. Historical costume. Fashion women Dresses. French ruffled collar.

Gorguera,  lechuguilla,  fraise,  ruff, molensteenkraag, Mühlsteinkragen, bryże, bris  - a collar made of very thin starched fabric or lace, attached to a fabric base or wire frame. This type of collar appeared in Spain at the beginning of the 16th century and spread throughout Europe. An attribute of clothing for representatives of the upper and middle classes of Europe, it was in fashion until the end of the 16th century, in Germany and the Netherlands until the 18th century. The collar was not very comfortable and was soon replaced with a more comfortable turn-down collar.
