"The Building News" was one of Britain's leading architectural journals in the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The publication was founded in 1854 under the title "Freehold Land Times and Building News" and appeared weekly on Fridays . The journal covered all aspects of construction and architecture: publishing plans and drawings of new buildings, reports on architectural competitions, and technical articles about materials and engineering solutions. Of particular value were the magnificent lithographic illustrations — both designs for new structures and sketches of existing architectural monuments from around the world, The journal continued until 1926, when it merged with "The Architect" to form "The Architect and Building News" . Today, its pages are an invaluable resource for architectural historians and collectors of antique engravings.
