In 1837, Ignatiy Stepanovich Shchedrovsky made a proposal to the St. Petersburg Society for the Encouragement of Artists to draw drawings from life depicting common scenes and costumes of St. Petersburg residents. The offer was accepted. In 1839, Ignatiy Stepanovich Shchedrovsky released his first album, Scenes from Russian Folk Life from 36 Lithographs, with scenes of urban life and portraits of urban street types from the first half of the 19th century. Shchedrovsky was only the author of drawings, and other masters made lithographs, Alexander Umnov (35 sheets) and Lev Belousov (1 sheet). In the first album, the drawings were made with graphite pencils, ink and brush and printed by lithographers only in black. In addition, they all came out in separate sheets. The artist's works were a great success with the public. In 1845, the artist released the second album "Here are ours!", which consisted of twenty color genre lithographs. He changed the vertical format to horizontal, and in lithography he used three colors - black, bluish and reddish. The third (dedicated to Emperor Nicholas I) and the fourth editions of the album, reissued in 1852 and 1855, came out with the text of V.N. Savinov on 79 pages under the changed title: "Scenes from Russian folk life. Drawn from life by I.S. Shchedrovsky". Drawings in different publications did not repeat each other, not only the name of the lithographs changed, but also the number of people depicted, the construction of space, landscapes, architecture or background.
