"Inkermann, Villes des cavernes".

Inkerman is a city in the southwest of the Crimean Peninsula. From Turkish this name is translated as “cave fortress”. Located at the confluence of the Black River into Sevastopol Bay. The city arose in the 6th century AD, when the Byzantines built the Kalamita fortress on the Monastery Rock to protect the approaches to Chersonesos. In the 8th-9th centuries, a monastery arose in Kalamita, from which a complex of cave temples in a cliff and numerous cells located in several tiers have been preserved.
