North American Engravers — Tanner, Henry

Henry Schenck Tanner (1786 - 1858), was an American cartographer, born in New York City.
Working with John Melish and then on his own, he proved that Americans create maps as well as British and European cartographers. His abilities and credentials were recognized by the Geographical Societies of London and Paris. In 1846, Tanner published A New Universal Atlas.
